THUMS UP TASTE THE THUNDER!!

it is by far the cola with the most character (althopugh i have never tried virgin cola).

when you have something hot and spicy (say a spicy mysore masala dosa or indian-chinese chilli chicken) and wash it down with thums up, it bubbles and gurgles and creates a tingling effervescence all the way up your nostrils.

but it is an acquired taste (or should i say sensation) i admit. it took me years to love fish egg sushi which does something similarly exciting.

lol. look at you two defending your horrible very-pale-imitation-of-coke thums up...

i like fish egg sushi. thums up still sucks ;-)

'Very pale' imitation of Coke? Thums Up is Schwarzenegger to Coke's Steven Seagal! Aretha Franklin to Coke's Jonas Brothers! Honshu to Coke's Shikoku! Curry goat to Coke's boiled mutton! Bombay to Coke's Baltimore! A grand transfinite to Coke's humble little integer! The monsoon of the tropics to Coke's London fog! It is an imitation that transcends the original so definitively that the original dwindles into a pale foreshadowing of what seems always to have been the REAL real thing -- unless, of course, you happen not to like the stuff. In which case it is pretty much shite, as you say.

But Limca, now that's the way forward. It has isotonic salts to quench your thirst. Got to love and cherish an isotonic salt.

Does anyone even remember Double Cola? Now THAT was a beverage that sucked true fart.

Thums Up is still India's largest selling cola brand - it outsells both Coke and Pepsi. Which is why the Coca Cola group has slowly swung around to marketing it after many attempts to kill the brand.

To quote from a shy thums up fan:

"Sell it! I can promise you that is enough motivation to eat everyday at Whitecross. The only other person who stocks it is the Uncle with the aloo parathas (who incidentally also does maaza and Limca) but he keeps them hidden away in the counter. Make it visible and you'll have the expats who crave Thums up lining up"
