the music sounds better with you

so, what is our groove?

our food is almost there - tasty, spicy and oozing with flavours. peppery beef, mustard prawns, pickled paneer, smoky grilled aubergine...... dan and phil at mystery** are on the case to give us that perfect blend of stylish yet minimalist decor.

the skinny-decaf lassi (great line sam!), fresh lime soda, beer and wine and are flowing .....it feels a bit sexy already. but what is playing ??? ....tell us what you'd like to hear

** these boys did the re-branding for trojan records. and giraffe. and lots of even more exciting stuff....i've pasted a few choice pieces above.

I think whatever you play should be punctuated by silence.

Here's a thought - hire a DJ in India to do some India meets lounge fusion. And album even....

Mooli-tube. Mooli-box.

Like Talvin Singh. But cooler. And not sure you'll need to pay - think of the airtime as advertising as payment.

One of the places that come to my mind when its "stylish yet minimalist" is Postcard Tea Cafe off the Oxford St. And of course some of the Alan Yau's places are such.

Decaf lassi?? Certainly intriguing (and hip!) if not existing!

J, like ur "punctuated by silence"!

Thia is what I would like to experience aurally:
- Surprise & discovery: Won't want to hear same things again & again
- Eclectic. Brings out flavors that music offers ...goes with the promise of flavors from mooli's?
- since this is a walk-in hungry & walk out chomping instead of sit & chill cafe, then something that is given to melody & rhythm since I wont have (or won't get!) the time to develop an ear for it before I start appreciating. Accessible, but not mass pop!
- Nothing that will drown a conversation.

Can we have the silence punctuated with porn music?

killer idea...just got back in touch with old friends from strawberry fields days...i'm sure you can suggest a few new hot numbers...howz shaai'ir & func?

@Mathew I could hook you up with people who know better than me. JD being one...

i love the india meets lounge fusion idea! mooli-tube :D

also like silence (and anon is losing the plot)

v, eclectic is good and agree, must not drown conversation.

mathew, abdullah ibrahim is NOT dull. if you think he is dull, all jazz is dull (ok i don't think he's right for moolis though). besides, you don't know how to hyperlink. :D

Sameer, you might want to go to lastfm.com, stream Karsh Kale or MIDIval PunditZ radio, and jot down the names of Indo-fusion lounge/trance acts that take your fancy. (Not that I recommend that genre of music wholeheartedly: it can easily turn muzakish.) But unbutton your eclecticism down to the waist, choose 'all of the above', flip your finger at stereotyping, and you will end up fascinating us all.

Gautam's MooliTube idea kicks, I think, serious ass.

Anonymous, how about you, me, a nice bottle of red vegetarian wine, some veggie chicken kebabs and some light flute music in the background humming porn/lounge tunes?

Did someone say JD?

Mathew, very soon (in a few months tops) BandTonga will be able to hook you up with a pan-Indian assortment of music from India... a 360* spectrum :-)

And we'll be happy to do this as a non-profit thingy, since we'll be thrilled with the exposure our repertoire will get in Mooli's

JD - would please me no end to showcase great talent from india. its good for the brand as well. i was really excited at the stuff blue frog ent. is doing in bombay...

JD said...

Mathew, blue frog is doing some really cool stuff with a lot of urban musicians

we're hoping to tap into a wider spectrum of Indian music though!

wow ...a music post got more action happening than a food post! maybe noise levels for food can be tested, if moolis start contemplating a launch with only veggie ones!! ;)

...but for few Indian fusion work, I have generally not come across a larger body of great Indian fusion stuff ...even tho fusion sound, not much of original interpretations! Have been to bluefrog multiple times ...first music dedicated venue of its kind in mumbai (or in India?), but did not charm me much ...some performances that I saw were average, tho Sach claims he has seen much better!!

...maybe MooliTube will do the trick here! ;)

tho there are lot of internet radios to discover some great music, one I found quite nifty is musicovery ...they allow u to play music according to ur mood, tempo and style
